we are not machines

designed to solely produce

at the whim of those

pounding keys and

pressing buttons at their fancy

We are meant to

smash ceilings

Yet we risk becoming

collateral damage

when we neglect to don our own helmets,

arming ourselves against lies:

that our bodies are tools

and they define our worth

that our minds are fragile

limited in capability and lacking in competence

that success is only possible by neglecting our truest forms,

and our own achievement must be snatched from another

because supply is scarce

These molds we’ve uncomfortably succumbed to

whether by force or simple acceptance

We now step above these notions

on our way to the top

Shattering floors and ceilings alike.
